Digital Transformation for the Elevation of Women
Date: 21 March 2024
Digital Her Conference
The President of Sierra Leone, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio gave his assent to the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act (GEWE) 2022 in January 2023. This Act made provision for increased appointment of women to decision-making positions, gender equality in employment and training, improvement of women’s access to finance, and other related matters. As the GEWE Act 2022 is being implemented, now is
an opportune time to focus on activities that would elevate business and professional women
One of the areas in which women lag is digitalisation – access to digital finance, digital skills, digital opportunities and digital tools, for professional and business growth. The Government of Sierra Leone’s vision is ‘To transform Sierra Leone into an inclusive digital economy and society with a digitally empowered citizenry supporting sustainable economic development, democracy, national security, and good governance’ .
The Digital Her Conference: Digital Transformation for the Elevation of Women, is being organised to provide a platform for women to access information and tools for their professional and business growth.
Elba (SL) Ltd was founded to fulfil our vision of ‘A thriving local private sector’. Owned by a woman who has been an entrepreneur for almost two decades, its strategy is to provide business development services and training in the areas of compliance and productivity, connect MSME owners to each other, market, investors and other stakeholders, and provide them with relevant and timely information, as well as short-term funds.
Through its Business Connect and Better Business initiatives, Elba conducts research and delivers demand-driven solutions to MSMEs, such as information exchange and learning opportunities, and business development services in the areas of financial, people and risk management. These solutions are delivered through events and digital communication.
Its services are as follows:
Digital Her will feature a series of interactive sessions, panel discussions, guest speakers, competitions, and an exhibition of digital products and services. It will leverage digital platforms to reach a wide audience and allow for active participation from women across Sierra Leone – Students, Professionals, Entrepreneurs, Community Leaders, Women’s Rights Advocates – and men who are allies in the pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
